Internet of Things and Sensors
Connect sensors to small computing devices, read measurements, and build prototypes that collect or share real-world data.
Prerequisite skills
Basic computer skills and willingness to work with hardware. Previous Arduino, C, or C++ experience is helpful but not required.
Knowledge you need
Basic programming ideas such as variables and if-statements are useful. Basic electricity concepts such as voltage, positive and ground connections are helpful; circuit experience is not required.
Skills you will develop
Write introductory Arduino C/C++ sketches; connect and read digital and analog sensors; control simple outputs; send readings to another device or service; and troubleshoot basic wiring.
Where you can apply it
Monitor soil moisture and greenhouse conditions; measure weather, air quality, temperature, or water levels; build tank overflow or equipment alerts; automate lights and simple devices; track industrial processes; and prototype connected systems for smart homes, farms, schools, and environmental projects.
Recommendation to Learners
Choose this course if you are interested in connecting software with the physical world. Sensors can help farmers use water wisely, communities monitor environmental conditions, and organizations spot equipment problems sooner. You will learn by building and testing real prototypes, combining programming, electronics, and problem-solving—useful preparation for embedded systems, automation, and connected-device projects.
